<p><font size=3>The <b>$2 million Victoria’s Heritage Grants program</b>,
an initiative from the strategy <i>Victoria’s Heritage: Strengthening
our </i>communities provides funding for:</font>
<br>
<ul>
<li><font size=3><b>Repair and conservation of heritage places and objects
</b></font></ul><font size=3>Publicly accessible places and objects listed
on the Victorian Heritage Register or local government Heritage Overlay
AND either under the responsibility of a Committee of Management; or owned
by local government or community not-for-profit incorporated bodies are
eligible to apply for funding for repair and conservation works.</font>
<br>
<ul>
<li><font size=3><b>Community collections management </b> </font></ul><font size=3>These
grants provide funding for heritage specialists to undertake projects to
improve the identification, management, preservation of and access to public
collections (excluding those in major cultural institutions). Collections
associated with places on the Victorian Heritage Register or local government
Heritage Overlay or are otherwise highly significant may also be eligible
for funding for cataloguing projects.</font>

<ul>
<li><font size=3><b>Interpretation of heritage places and objects</b></font></ul><font size=3>Publicly
accessible places and objects listed on the Victorian Heritage Register
or Victorian local government Heritage Overlay or the Victorian Heritage
Inventory are eligible to apply for grants to develop interpretation projects
that will improve the understanding of, and public access to, Victoria’s
important heritage places, objects and collections.</font>

<ul>
<li><font size=3><b>Local government heritage studies and advice</b></font></ul><font size=3>These
grants are only available to local councils and other authorities responsible
for administering planning schemes in Victoria for local heritage studies,
and the digitisation of existing studies.</font>
<p><font size=3>To date 84 community groups have been supported to help
conserve local landmarks and objects, from local halls and mechanics institutes
to rotundas and aircraft. Grants have supported 37 interpretation projects
and 71 local museums, historical societies and other caretakers have been
assisted to document and manage their collections. More than 40 local heritage
studies have been funded.</font>
